I, Robot.
Okay, this is about as far away from gaming as I can get and still feel comfortable about posting it here. However, it is just so freaking cool to my inner nerd that I have to share.
Microsoft is giving you the chance to win a real live(???) robot. Just enter the Robo-Champs competition and see how you do against other robot programmers in various challenges like navigating through a maze. You will need some technical know-how like how to program since it uses C# and robotics is not exactly entry-level geekery. The contest is all done virtually on your computer using a simulated game space, but the finals will involve uploading your program into a real robot and watching it go (if I understand the contest rules correctly).
I don't know where I'm going to find time to do this between school and gaming and other time wasters, but I'm sure going to try.
Competition Site: RoboChamps (You will need to install Silverlight to view it, so if that makes you squeamish see the Major Nelson link first. He has alternatives you can install instead)

Is this anything like those robot war shows they had on Spike Tv long ago? Apparently the guy who created the Rock band "real" drum set mod used to be one of those robot guys.
Let me know how it goes if you attempt this.
